Firefighters with Clallam County Fire District 3 extinguished three separate grass fires adjacent to U.S. Highway 101 to the east of Sequim on Aug. 1.
Public Information Officer Patrick Young said at 3:43 p.m. the fire district received a report of three grass fires several hundred feet apart covering an area of a quarter mile.
The largest area of fire was about 20 by 30 feet in waist-high grass and weeds, he said.
A moderate breeze out of the northwest was slowly moving the fire toward heavy brush as crews quickly contained all three fires, he said.
Young said the fire may have been the result of a vehicle experiencing mechanical difficulties.
Five fire vehicles, two Washington State Patrol troopers and three Sequim Police Department units responded to the area and routed traffic via shifted lanes around the fire area. No injuries were reported.
