On Aug. 16, the First Federal Community Foundation presented a check for $50,000 to Volunteers in Medicine of the Olympics for the expansion of the agency’s dental clinic in Port Angeles. Upon completion, the dental clinic’s expanded capacity will provide badly needed treatment to a higher number of patients who currently have no options for dental care.
“VIMO provides comprehensive, compassionate care to those who would otherwise have none,” said Karen McCormick, executive director of the First Federal Community Foundation. “The dental clinic expansion will allow VIMO to treat a significantly higher number of patients who have no other resources.”
Founded in 2005, VIMO provides health care options to adults who are uninsured or have no other resources available to them. The agency operates a 3,000 square-foot clinic providing comprehensive medical, dental and behavior health services, five days per week.
“Volunteers in Medicine of the Olympics provides dental care for those in the community who cannot find or afford services elsewhere,” said Mary Hogan, executive director of VIMO. “Thanks to the generosity of First Federal Community Foundation, VIMO was able to purchase dental practice management software and add a fifth dental operatory to our clinic. This will allow us to serve up to 500 additional patients per year — patients who would otherwise have to go to the ER or remain untreated.”
