Fitting into your pants

Sequim doc provides “a game plan”

A few months ago, after a year and a half of research and writing, Sequim chiropractor Leslie Van Romer debuted her first published book, “Getting into Your Pants,” a weight-loss paperback.

The basic premise of the book focused on eating the foods that are best for you first and then, if you’re still hungry, eating foods that may not be the best but are still good for you. With some added “wiggle room” for your favorite treats, Van Romer created a plan she felt was doable.

“People loved the book but they began saying how difficult it was to make that shift,” Van Romer said.

Those concerns led Van Romer to put out a partner to the book: “Getting into Your Pants: The Playbook.”

According to Van Romer, the workbook-type book helps readers work the major points of the book into their own lives and answers questions the author has gotten since the release of her first book.

“There are four questions I get a lot of,” Van Romer said. “Things like, ‘If you don’t eat meat, where do you get protein?’ and ‘If you don’t drink milk, where do you get calcium?’”

Van Romer strives to answer those questions in “Playbook,” but says her readers do not have to completely cut meat or dairy out of their diets.

“You don’t have to necessarily agree with it,” she said. “But it gives you more awareness.”

Along with reinforcing the main points from the book, Van Romer added simple ways to calculate Body-Mass Index (BMI) and the frame size, as requested by her readers.

“I make the calculations simple enough so that it’s not overwhelming,” she said.

For Van Romer, the addition is simply a way to take the points of the book and be able to actually use them to reach goals.

“It’s one thing having a weight goal, it’s another thing actually doing it,” she said. “I think this will help people work the book into their lives.”
