Former assistant Sequim High School girls basketball coach Jerry Jeff Pedersen, 28, will go to trial on July 21 in Clallam County Superior Court facing five felony counts of allegedly communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
Pedersen pled not guilty on May 2 to communicating with a 15-year-old girl on the basketball team. Sequim Police investigated and stated in court documents that the two were in a relationship.
The counts against Pedersen, a volunteer coach since November 2012, occurred March 1-23. For each charge, Pedersen could face up to five years in prison and he must register as a sex offender if convicted.
The 15-year-old told police she and Pedersen would text several times a day from waking up to going to bed and at the beginning, conversations were about life and school before turning into flirting, court documents state, and that they exchanged nude photos.
Pedersen was released to his father after his hearing and cannot go to schools or have contact with women under 18 unless supervised by adults aware of the charges.
