A fire consumed a modular home at 332 Mill Road in Carlsborg on Monday evening.
Clallam County Fire District 3 reported to the fire at 4:52 p.m. on March 23 after the homeowners called 9-1-1.
The family of three just moved most of their belongings into the home on Saturday after it had been vacant for two years.
Assistant Chief Roger Moeder said investigators believe the furnace failed leading to a fire starting underneath the home.
“It got pretty intense,” he said. “It’s a tough one because it was all in the crawl space. We had to cut openings around skirting and floors and work it like that.”
A family member said they suspected something was wrong because the furnace was hot but its fan wasn’t blowing.
Moeder said he’s not sure if the modular home is a total loss or not due to the damage underneath and design of the building.
There were no injuries reported and the homeowners have fire insurance.
Nine fire crew vehicles and the American Red Cross reported to the scene.
