The North Peninsula Building Association Future Builders program marked the beginning of House No. 10 on Sept. 14 at the new home site. More than 40 people attended the ribbon cutting and groundbreaking ceremony complete with golden shovels.

State Rep. Lynn Kessler, Port Angeles school superintendent Dr. Jane Pryne, North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center director Jacob Jackson, Port Angeles Mayor Gary Braun, Port Angeles school board president Steve Baxter, Clallam County Commissioner Steve Tharinger, school board vice president Lonnie Linn, North Peninsula Building Association president Tracy Gudgel and NPBA executive officer FaLeana Wech were among the dignitaries in attendance. Construction superintendent Dan Peacock and classroom instructor Dave Peterson introduced the 2009-2010 students.

The program was created when the building industry in Clallam County experienced a shortage of skilled workers. Students are introduced to all phases of home building by participating in construction of a single-family home.

This is a partnership among the Port Angeles School District, North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center and Peninsula College.

Students can contact the North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center at 565-1533. At NOPSC, students from 16-21 years old receive career training as part of their public education.
