Elise Beuke, a University of Washington rower and Sequim native, joins Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association coach Debby Swinford to discuss competitive rowing and local opportunities to get involved in at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. “The Girls in the Boat” participants will have opportunities to ask questions, examine an actual racing shell and be inspired at this free, all-ages event — part of the Clallam County Reads program taking place at the North Olympic Library System throughout October.
Clallam County Reads is a book club for the entire county. Throughout October, NOLS — in collaboration with community partners around the Olympic Peninsula — offer a series of free, educational and community-building events and programs related to the themes explored in the book club’s official selection, “The Boys in the Boat,” by Daniel James Brown.
To participate in the book club, simply stop by your library to pick up a free copy of “The Boys in the Boat” and its accompanying reader’s guide. Copies are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are yours to keep.
As a culmination to the program, Brown will visit the Port Angeles High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, to discuss his experiences researching and writing “The Boys in the Boat,” answer questions and sign books.
For a complete schedule of upcoming Clallam County Reads programs and events, visit www.nols.org, send an email to Discover@nols.org or stop by your nearby library.
Clallam County Reads events are supported by Friends of the Library groups in Sequim, Port Angeles, Forks and Clallam Bay. Community partners include the Sequim School District, Sequim Education Foundation, Port Angeles School District, Port Angeles Education Foundation and Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association.
