The cause of the fire at Graysmarsh Farm on Friday, Oct. 30 is considered to be “accidental undetermined,” Tony Hudson, Clallam County Fire District 3 assistant chief, said.

The blaze engulfed a historical barn and 4,000 bales of hay before firefighters responding from multiple districts were able to extinguish it. The barn was lost, but crews successfully protected a nearby resident and carport.

Investigators with the insurance company and Clallam County Fire District 3 worked on site following the fire and into the first week of November before drawing the investigation to a close.

It was concluded the origin of the fire was located on the west exterior of the barn, near a northern stack of hay, but its cause isn’t considered “suspicious,” Hudson said.

The cause will remain as is unless the insurance company opts to investigate further.
