The Sequim City Band awards scholarships of $1,000 to college bound students each year. The recipients must play in the Sequim City Band and be interested in furthering their interest in music during their time at college.

The 2009 recipients of the Sequim City Band Scholarship Awards are Matthew Grey and Laura Moser.

Grey plays the trombone and the euphonium in the Sequim High School band and has played with the Sequim City Band for two years. Grey plans to go to Central Washington University to pursue a major in music performance and education.

Moser also plays with the

Sequim High School band and has been with the Sequim City Band for two years. Moser plays the alto saxophone and often solos with the city band.

She plans to attend Pepperdine University in the fall, majoring in engineering and possibly a minor in music.

Both musicians will be missed by the city band in the fall, band members said.

Peninsula area high school and college students interested in furthering their musical skills are encouraged to join the Sequim City Band. The 60-piece concert band includes many retired professionals and most have life skills that they are eager to share with young musicians. Rehearsals are from 7-9 p.m. Monday evenings.

Concerts are played at 3 p.m. indoors in March and October and outdoors at the James Center for the Performing Arts on the third Sunday of each month, May through September.
