A public hearing regarding a proposed 150-foot-tall FM radio and cellular phone tower is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, in Clallam County Superior Court, with Judge Erik Rohrer presiding.

The original applicant of the project is Radio Pacific, Inc., owned by Sequim businessman Brown M. Maloney.

The proposed site is on the 600 block of Brigadoon Boulevard near Dungeness.

Neighbors have formed a nonprofit group — Dungeness Heights Homeowners — to take contributions supporting a lawsuit opposing the tower project.

Sequim resident Diane Hood said she’s opposed to radio/cell towers being placed in residential neighborhoods.

“The proposed tower will have an irreversible adverse impact on the surrounding land uses,” she said in a written statement.

“This is allowing commercial in residential. We thought the county codes and ordinances would protect us but (they) failed,” she said.

Clallam County hearing examiner William Payne approved a conditional use permit for the project in March.

“We’re confident with our application; we’ve exceeded requirements to do this project,” Radio Pacific general manager Todd Ortloff. “Obviously, the hearing examiner agreed.”

But, Ortloff noted, he didn’t expect a final decision to come at Tuesday’s hearing.
