“Howard,” one of at least three Carrie Blake Park ducks shot with blow darts in a recent attack, is well on the way to recovery.

Howard was featured in a photo on the cover of the Sequim Gazette on July 24.

Brandon Montoya, one of the directors of North Olympic Rabbit Rescue, said he and others from his organization were able to capture Howard and deliver her to Greywolf Veterinary Hospital, where the staff had earlier volunteered to remove the dart.

Howard is now recovering at the Northwest Raptor & Wildlife Center .

A spokesman with Greywolf said, “Thank you to North Olympic Rabbit Rescue for bringing in the injured duck. The blow dart was successfully removed. She is being treated with antibiotics and is expected to make a full recovery.”

Montoya noted that, as it happens, “the duck is female, so we won’t be calling her ‘Howard’ any more.”

North Olympic Rabbit Rescue is “a group of dedicated rabbit rescuers operating from Forks to the Hood Canal.”

They focus their efforts on finding homes for unwanted, abandoned and feral rabbits.
