The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society’s Bark House will reopen Saturday, March 1, according to a message posted on the organization’s Facebook page Sunday.
The message by board president and acting executive director Paul Stehr-Green invited the public to visit the new Bark House between 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. that day.
“We want the public to know that we’re starting out slowly, testing new protocols, facilities, and staff,” the post stated. “Initially, we’ll only care for a maximum of 10 dogs, but, as we settle in and our confidence grows, we’ll gradually increase that number, hopefully, beginning sometime in April.”
Bark House closed last July, with officials citing unsustainable operating costs. Since then, the executive director resigned, changes were made to other personnel and, according to Stehr-Green, procedures have been updated.
Bark House will not accept any stray or surrendered animal unless the owner has completed a surrender form and scheduled an appointment with Bark House ahead of time.
The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society offers food and other items to help owners who might otherwise have to give up their pet.
