The stolen mural piece showing a father and daughter sharing ice cream was recovered Nov. 29 by the Sequim Police Department.

The picture was stolen sometime the weekend of Nov. 4-6 from the side of Hurricane Coffee Co. Building owners Carol and Gary Zellmer moved the picture from its original location on Heather Creek to the coffee shop.

Lt. Sheri Crain with the Sequim Police Department said the mural was spotted on the administrative building at Sequim High School and found with slight damage from where it was ripped off the wall. No damage was reported to the high school.

Carol Zellmer said the piece of art is valued as high as several thousand dollars and she and her husband sent along a reward for its recovery.

“It would be nice if these kids realized that taking anything valued at over $750 is a felony with jail time,” Zellmer said. “A joke is a joke, but jail time isn’t.”  

The mural is planned for reinstallation on the side of Hurricane Coffee.

No suspects are known at this time.

“Clearly this was a theft and whether it’s a prank or not it’s still a crime,” Crain said.
