Jazz trio sets concert at Disco Bay Detour for Aug. 19

On Aug. 19, peninsula resident Rex Rice leads Trombone Syndrome, a jazz trio, playing from 8-10:30 p.m. at Disco Bay Detour, 282332 U.S. Highway 101 in Discovery Bay (near the Route 20 intersection).

There is no cover charge, but a $5 contribution is appreciated, event organizers say.

Rice is well-known to area jazz fans. He plays many gigs in the Seattle area with different groups and is a “go-to” trombonist here on the peninsula.

He has toured with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and played with combos and big bands throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Rice is joined on Friday by two other well-known area musicians: Mick Nicholson, himself a longtime member of the Navy Band, on bass, and Trevor Hanson on 7-string guitar.
