Annual duck derby sells more than 30,000 ducks

More than 30,000 ducks floated in Nippon Paper Industries’ canal May 23 in the 21st Olympic Peninsula Duck Derby.

Ducks sold for $5 each or six for $25, with proceeds to the Olympic Medical Center Foundation, Sequim Noon Rotary Club’s charities and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula.

Wilder Toyota donated her choice of a 2010 Toyota Corolla or Tacoma to first-place winner Nancy Johnson of Port Angeles. She hasn’t decided yet, event organizers said.

Blake Tile and Stone’s was the first Sequim duck to cross the finish line. It was in fifth place, winning a girls’ night out spa package. Other Sequim winners included Mary Howard, seventh; Davis Sand & Gravel, eighth; Miller Signs, 11th; Georgia Gale, 16th; Bill Folmer, 18th; and McCrorie Carpet One, 19th.
