A California couple arrested in May for taking two boys from their Sequim home now face a Nov. 16 trial.
Loretta J. Edberg, 37, of Montclair, Calif., is charged with two counts of custodial interference.
Her alleged accomplice is Anthony Charles Buchanan, 33, also of Montclair, Calif., who faces two counts of custodial interference and two counts of kidnapping.
First-degree custodial interference carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine plus restitution and assessments.
Second-degree kidnapping carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine plus restitution and assessments.
The two were booked into Clallam County Jail and released Friday afternoon after arriving from southern California. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 15.
According to court documents, the two children – a 13-year-old boy and his 10-year-old brother – were reported missing by their father, Brian N. Hanning, on April 29.
Officers tracked Edberg’s cell phone traveling south on Interstate 5 through Oregon.
Edberg was arrested May 1 by Montclair police, and Buchanan turned himself into police later that day.
