Sequim Gazette staff
Have your group/class design and build a miniature radio tower for KSQM 91.5 FM radio station’s fundraiser, the “Big Broadcast,” scheduled for Oct. 8.
KSQM is raising funds for a bigger, stronger tower that will reach more people on the peninsula and beyond. The community radio station’s primary focus is the education, health and welfare of its listeners.
As this event is expected to be well-attended by the arts and education communities, KSQM is inviting education organizations to be involved.
Tower entries must be completed and turned in by Oct. 5.
Each radio tower receives a first, second, third or honorable mention within its category. There also will be a “People’s Choice” winner.
Each group/class can make as many towers as they would like, within the height parameters noted: 12 inches to 16 inches high for dinner tables, up to 36 inches high for auction tables.
Add a base for the tower that ties in with the tower’s theme, such as cardboard or plywood.
Towers may have flashing lights and/or moving parts. Towers also may have the name of the school/group on the structure or on a sign in front of it.
Each group/class can choose which category to enter each tower in and more than one tower can be entered into the same category.
Here are the 10 categories:
• Most Colorful
• Most Hi-Tech
• Most Green (examples: solar-powered LED light, eco-friendly material)
• Most Recycled
• Most Unique
• Most Realistic
• Most Futuristic
• Most Mechanical (example: moving parts)
• Most Comical
• Most Whimsical
Arrangements can be made for those needing help transporting a tower.
Contest organizers ask entrants to explain why their towers should be in the category entered and to give a written description of the tower for publicity purposes.
