Local law enforcement agencies participate in the Nationwide Prescription Take-Back Day sponsored by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
In Sequim, residents can drop off expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Sequim Police Department, 152 W. Cedar St.
Disposal is also available from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Clallam County courthouse at 223 E. 4th Street in Port Angeles.
Vaping pens and cartridges will also be accepted (without batteries), but sites cannot accept liquids, needles or Sharps containers.
Organizers say the service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked by staffers.
Individuals can drop off their unwanted drugs and medications during the rest of the year at Med-Project LLC kiosks in the Sequim Police Department from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, and at the courthouse from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, except holidays.
More information about Med-Project LLC can be found at www.med-project.org.
Prescription drug abuse is the fastest-growing drug problem in America, organizers said. Individuals are reminded that you should never flush prescription drugs down the toilet or sink drain.
