Local law enforcement reports that phone calls related to alleged warrants for residents’ arrests are false. Some residents have reported that law enforcement is calling from out of the area, indicating there is a warrant for their arrest for not appearing at jury duty or court hearings.
Clallam County Sheriff Brian King said these phone scams have circulated in recent years in various forms, including agencies or individuals saying they need money sent to rescue a grandchild from jail.
“We won’t ask for (debit/credit) cards or serve (warrants) over the phone,” he said.
The Sheriff’s Office advises its citizens to hang up immediately if they get one of these unsolicited phone calls and not to provide any sensitive information.
If residents are unsure if the call is a scam, King advises the above and for residents to call the Sheriff’s Office at 360-417-2459 or Sequim Police at 360-683-7227.
