The Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center in Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim.

The program will be presented by Carolyn Wilcox of Experience Olympic Tours.

Imagine setting off on your dream birding vacation to El Tuito, Mexico, but you end up dislocating and breaking your ankle on the first morning of your trip.

This happened to Wilcox, but she wasn’t about to let a minor inconvenience like broken bones stop her from seeing spectacular birds.

Come hear her talk about one of the best birding areas of the world, western Mexico, and specifically a birding oasis called Rancho Primavera.

Like other areas of western Mexico, Rancho Primavera has a remarkable diversity of birds, including such beauties as the San Blas jay, cinnamon hummingbird and yellow grosbeak.

Wilcox also will compare birds of Rancho Primavera with the birds of Clallam County, along with species found in both places like the Pacific-slope flycatcher.

Wilcox is the owner and operator of Experience Olympic Tours, based in Port Angeles. She has a master’s degree in environmental science from University of Nevada–Reno and has been an educator since 2003.

The program is free and open to the public.
