Learn to grow, preserve berries

WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners host a workshop on Saturday, June 4, to help inspire participants to grow a variety of berries at their home.

 

WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners host a workshop on Saturday, June 4, to help inspire participants to grow a variety of berries at their home. The workshop will run from 9 a.m.-noon and be held at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, Sequim.

Master Gardener veteran Jeanette Stehr-Green will be sharing her experience with participants on growing strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries in the home garden.She will describe the ideal planting site for the different berries, how to plant them and how to care for them throughout the season.

Betsy Wharton, proprietor of the Clallam Canning Company, also will be on hand to give tips on how to safely preserve berries and will provide other options on processing berries after harvest.

Class size is limited for this workshop, so participants are asked to call the WSU Clallam County Extension office at 565-2679 to reserve a seat. The cost of the workshop is $15. Participants will be provided with several publications on growing berries and resources for safe processing of the harvest.
