WSU Clallam County Veteran Master Gardener Ann Murakami will describe a no-dig, no-till gardening system, named lasagna gardening, at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, Sequim.
Lasagna gardening is a method of building layers of decomposing material to increase the health and structure of garden soil. Materials such as dried leaves or straw, green grass clippings and other yard waste are layered, which then allow direct planting into new, easily worked compost. The layers are developed on top of cardboard or newspapers, suppressing weeds.
Murakami will share her step by step “blueprint” for building a productive raised bed by layering organic material along with the successes and challenges of its evolution over the past two years.
A Master Gardener since 2013, she brings a great deal of talent and energy to the Fifth Street Community Garden Master Gardener demonstration plots in Port Angeles.
Her presentation is part of the “Saturdays in the Garden” educational series sponsored by the Clallam County WSU Master Gardeners.
This is a free presentation that is open to the public, however donations are accepted to help cover copying costs for handouts.
