Wanted: Sense regarding the Supreme Court
It’s been suggested that common sense trumps juris prudence as a prerequisite for Supreme Court justice. And, the Constitution is sacrosanct, not open to interpretation.
Forget about those pesky comments.
Imagine, if you will, a want ad: “Supreme Court justice wanted. No experience necessary. Common sense a plus.”
Why not advertise for the presidency as well?
A pizza magnate, a neurosurgeon and now a real estate mogul is vying for the job.
Our bureaucracy looks like Lucy’s barbecue anyway, so what have we got to lose?

Proud of their patriotism
Last Friday (Sept. 2), I was walking toward the Sequim High School office when, suddenly, I heard over the loud speaker system a student’s voice reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. I looked around and saw various students standing at attention, facing the flag, with hands over hearts.
The moment took my breath away and made me so proud and happy to live in Sequim and to have my granddaughter attend Sequim High School.
This place is truly special, and when I heard the pledge and saw students honor the flag the way they did, I almost shed a tear.
Thank you all for bolstering my faith in the school district leaders, teachers and students.

Where is the safety?
It is difficult to understand why someone is authorized to shoot a shotgun close to residence housing in Sequim.
Spending close to 30 years in the military I do realize that even when a shotgun is fired in the air close to houses that the pellets must come down; i.e., what goes up does come down. I called 9-1-1 and was told that they had already received a call and checked with ‘wildlife’ and the so-called geese hunters had permission from the owner of the land to hunt on the property.
The 9-1-1 operator connected me with ‘wildlife’ and once again I was told that they had permission to hunt on that property with no interest in that issue of safety. Many houses are in the area between Medsker Road and Port Williams Road and is butting up against the city limits of Sequim.
Regardless if someone is so foolish to shoot any type of weapon that close to residences even with permission of the landowner then they best know what the results will be if and when someone is hurt. I wonder if I can get permission from QFC or Walmart to hunt elk in their parking lot?
An additional fact is that the gentleman who owned the property where the hunters were shooting was adamant/steadfast that the land was to be placed in a conservational program to continue to allow the elk a place to roam free.
It is obvious that once this gentleman became ill that his relatives did not follow his desires/wishes because they put up fences and started farming the property — a real shame to not honor the gentleman’s request.

Count me as one
At a recent Democratic fundraiser featuring Barbra Streisand, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton referred to Trump supporters as a “basket of deplorables.” They are “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic and Islamaphobic.”
Now all of these pejorative labels are right out of the liberal lexicon of silly names that are trotted out in lieu of cogent argument. Here are the definitions.
I believe that the acts of the Obama administration are best characterized by the words misfeasance, malfeasance, incompetence and arrogance, this makes me a “racist.”
I believe that Hillary Clinton is a proven liar and a devotee of Saul Alinsky and Margaret Sanger and the evils they represent, therefore I am a “sexist.”
I believe that an insignificant micro-minority of the U.S. population is LGBT and that they are attempting to force our culture into believing their sexual proclivities are normal behavior, because of that I am “homophobic.”
I believe that the principles and acts of the United States are far above those of any other nation and I love my country, consequently I am “xenophobic.”
I believe that the “Islamic Jihad” is dedicated to obtaining hegemony over the entire world, ergo I am ”Islamaphobic.”
Lastly, I bear every one of those labels with pride because they make me an American in the spirit of the word.
