Two more Sequim teachers are taking their profession to the next level.

Stephanie Lewis and Joe Sullivan, both teachers at Sequim High School, were notified in November they have earned national board certification.

With Lewis and Sullivan, Sequim School District now has 22 teachers on staff with national board certification status.

National Board Certification an advanced teaching credential, one that involves a rigorous, peer-reviewed process that according to program literature “ensures that Board-certified teachers have proven skills to advance student achievement.”

Lewis has a master’s degree in education/curriculum and instruction. She teaches health classes at the high school and coaches girls’ volleyball and girls’ basketball teams at Sequim Middle School.

Lewis earned her administrative credentials in July  and in addition to teaching she serves as an administrative interim within the district.

“For any teacher looking for a challenging and rigorous course that allows them to reflect upon their teaching methods, National Board does a good job with this,” Lewis said.

“I feel like I’m a better teacher now and I would encourage other teachers to look into the program.”

Sullivan teaches integrated science, physics and advanced placement physics at Sequim High.
