The Pioneer Dance Arts team won gold and silver at the Hollywood Vibe dance convention and competition April 29-May 1 at the Seatac Hilton.
Trey Baldwin won a gold award for his solo modern performance of “Carmina Burana: O Fortuna.” The team received a high silver award for its jazz piece “If Today Was Your Last Day” and a silver award for the ballet “Simple Gifts.” The team also was awarded a Judges Specialty Committed Award.
The team attended classes in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical, progressions and jazz fusion.
Eighteen dance schools from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia sent 164 entries to the event. The faculty of Hollywood Vibe includes performers and choreographers who appear in the latest movies, music videos, television shows, tours and Broadway musicals. Kent Boyd, from “So You Think You Can Dance,” was a faculty assistant.
