Updated: A Port Hadlock man was airlifted Monday night to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after his truck flipped in the middle of a Sequim off-ramp.
Washington State Patrol reports that 26-year-old Cole Roberts was driving eastbound on the River Road off-ramp from U.S. Highway 101 at 6:30 p.m. July 17 when his 1983 Ford truck began to leave the roadway to the left and he overcorrected to the right resulting in the truck rolling several times and landing on its top.
Battalion Chief Elliott Jones with Clallam County Fire District 3 said Roberts was trapped inside the truck for about 10 minutes before firefighters used battery-powered spreaders and cutters to extricate him.
Roberts was listed as in serious but stable condition, Jones said.
An Airlift Northwest helicopter from Bremerton landed in the off-ramp and flew Roberts to Seattle.
State Patrol reports he was not wearing a seat belt, and alcohol and drugs were not involved.
He tentatively faces charges for second degree negligent driving, according to a State Patrol report.
The ramp was blocked for about 90 minutes.
Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Olympic Ambulance, Clallam County Fire District 3, Sequim Police Department and Washington State Patrol responded to the wreck. The truck was totaled and towed by Evergreen Towing, State Patrol reports.
