Milestone: Dao gets Rotary honor

Cathy Dao, a junior at Sequim High School, was recognized as the Sequim Sunrise Rotary’s November student of the month.

Cathy Dao, a junior at Sequim High School, was recognized as the Sequim Sunrise Rotary’s November student of the month.

Dao, pictured above with SHS teacher Mark Knudson, moved to Sequim from Saigon, Vietnam, just two months ago.

Knudson, who teachers advanced placement economics at SHS, nominated Dao.

Knudson told the Rotary Club how Dao wrote to him while she was in Vietnam asking him what studies she should be doing in preparation for the class.

Some of Dao’s favorite classes include jazz ensemble and AP U.S. History.

She also is involved with the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) group and Honor Society, and is a rhinoceros protection ambassador for Vietnam.

Dao attended the Rotary meeting with her parents Susan and Don.

Her future plans include attending a four-year college in the field of diplomacy and political science.

Her hope is do something that includes human verbal interaction among Chinese, Vietnamese and English.
