Harold Pomeroy celebrated his 100th birthday, Monday, Dec. 1. Pomeroy moved to Sequim in 1980 from California, bringing with him his ongoing desire for community participation.
Among his 75 years with the Freemasons and about 35 years as a Rotarian, Pomeroy was married for 56 years and continues to be a father to his three children.
“He is the best father anyone could ever ask for,” Pomeroy’s son, Trent Pomeroy, said. “Dad has always been a positive, optimistic and compassionate person with a marvelous sense of humor.”
Pomeroy lost his own father at the young age of 8 and thus began working in a hardware store by the time he was about 10 to help support his family. Pomeroy later pursued a 34-year career within the hardware industry, but before doing so enlisted with the Army Air Corps to serve in World War II, which took him to many parts of the world.
Reflecting on his long life, packed with family, ongoing community involvement and world travels, Pomeroy would like to attribute his longevity as a reward for righteous living, but realistically his “healthy lifestyle and positive outlook has gone a long way,” Trent said.
“It’s a very big deal for Dad to reach 100,” Trent said. “He has been looking forward to this for a long time.”
