Fort Discovery recently announced Justine Wagner of Sequim as the winner of the Miss Fort Discovery competition.
There were five contestants: one from Spokane, Woodinville and three from Sequim that participated in the competition, which was held on Saturday, Aug. 1.
Contestants were tested in physical agility, shelter craft, shooting, board interview, and written exam on the history of Fort Discovery and landing of Capt. George Vancouver. “After the competition, the scores were tallied and Justine Wagner was clearly the winner,” said Joe D’Amico, president of Fort Discovery.
“Wagner won three of the five stations — shooting, interview board and physical agility.”
Wagner, 26, was born and raised in Sequim. She graduated from Sequim High School and attend the University of Idaho.
While attending the University of Idaho, Wagner played tennis and graduated with her bachelor’s in education. She currently teaches at SHS and coaches boys tennis, girls tennis and girls basketball.
Wagner enjoys hiking, biking, fishing, crabbing, clamming, playing tennis, swimming and reading. Her family resides in Sequim and is involved with the community.
Wagner will be crowned at 11 a.m. Aug. 15 during the Fort Discovery annual “Unity of Effort” picnic.
The event is open to the public and gates open at 10 a.m. Shuttle bus service will be provided by 7 Cedars Casino and will run on the hour.
