A residential fire at 3 a.m. on Monday morning, April 28, has displaced a man and woman from their Davidson Drive home.

The residents were home at the time the fire was reported to 9-1-1. The man, in his early 60s, was examined and released at the scene for minor hand injuries and potential smoke inhalation while the woman escaped the home without injury.

Both occupants refused the services of the American Red Cross and are staying with friends.

The fire was extinguished in less than 30 minutes and was contained to the second story bedroom areas of the home. The remainder of the home suffered smoke and water damage, rendering the home uninhabitable, Fire District 3 officials said.

An investigation into the cause of the fire began Monday morning; no cause had been announced by press time. It was not clear if the home was insured or what the total cost of the fire loss will be.

Spath Road was closed to traffic for nearly two-and-a-half hours.

The District 3 had 14 firefighters and seven pieces of firefighting equipment on scene. Water had to be shuttled to the scene by a tender (water truck) and then pumped 600-plus feet from Spath Road to the fire engine fighting the fire on Davidson Drive. Assisting agencies included Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Olympic Ambulance and Clallam County PUD.
