Mountain View Christian School, 255 Medsker Road, brings in the fresh faces of husband-wife Doug and Judy Allison from Olympia.
Doug takes on the head teacher position in grades 5-8 and as principal while Judy starts up the school’s first kindergarten program from 8:15 a.m.-noon. weekdays.
The couple moved from Olympia where Doug was teaching grades 6-8 at Olympic Christian School. He’s been teaching for four years and takes over for outgoing teacher/principal Brian Gang who moved to a principal position of a Christian school in Oregon.
“I bring a lot of life experiences to the classroom and I bring an environment that children learn well in while trying to make it fun,” Doug said.
Prior to teaching he’s worked a number of jobs, most recently as a caretaker for nine years at Camp Lorraine in Southeast Alaska.
Judy has worked with children nearly 30 years with 15 years as a preschool teacher and 14 years as a teacher’s aide in public and private schools. She recently received her bachelor’s degree in education and Doug holds a Masters of Arts in teaching. They are excited to be in Sequim and hope to make it their permanent home. The Allisons have one grown son.
The school is affiliated with the Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church. Enrollment is at about 25 students between two classes for grades 1-4 and 5-8. Mountain View Christian School was founded in 1950 and its current building opened in 1959.
Enrollment for K-8 is open all school year by calling 683-6170.
