Kim M. Newell, 50, of Sequim, was sentenced on June 5 to serve 60 days in the Jefferson County jail, with credit for 60 days time served in a related case.

Newell’s sentence is a result of a guilty plea to possession of heroin, a Class C felony committed on Dec. 3, 2013.

The case began when a Washington State Patrol trooper stopped Newell on U.S. Highway 101 in Jefferson County and arrested Newell for DUI Drugs. An Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team detective responded to assist with the investigation.

After obtaining a search warrant, investigators found heroin and 3,000 new syringes in the vehicle.
