On Sept. 27, North Olympic Land Trust will host the 15th Annual Harvest Dinner at Sunland Golf & Country Club north of Sequim.
This sold-out event celebrates local farms, food and chefs while raising funds for farmland conservation in Clallam County. All ingredients for this multi-course meal are sourced within 100 miles of Sequim (except for some oils and spices) making this a very popular event for local foodies and farmland supporters. This year’s dinner will be orchestrated under the direction of head chef Arran Stark.
During the dinner the Land Trust will honor Holly and Tom Clark of Clark Farms as the 2014 Farmers of the Year.
The featured speaker of this year’s Harvest Dinner is renowned Northwest author and chef Greg Atkinson. Atkinson is the owner and executive chef at Restaurant Marche on Bainbridge Island.
A leading voice in Northwest cooking, he is a frequent commentator in print, on radio and television, including the Taste column for Pacific Northwest Magazine and KUOW’s “The Beat.” Atkinson also is the author of “West Coast Cooking,” “Northwest Essentials” and other popular Northwest cookbooks.
Proceeds from the Harvest Dinner help protect local food, farmland and agricultural jobs. Past proceeds from Harvest Dinners have been directly matched with state and federal funds to conserve over 140 acres of local farmland and help sustain the Olympic Peninsula’s agricultural base for generations to come. To date proceeds from the Harvest Dinner helped protect Finn Hall Farm, Dungeness Valley Creamery, Plowsong Farm, and most recently, 24-Carrot Farm.
