John W. ‘Bill’ Crump

A celebration of life for former Sequim resident Lt. Col. John W. “Bill” Crump, USAF Ret., will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, at Beck’s Funeral Home, 405 Fifth Ave., Edmonds. A graveside military service follows at Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park in Seattle.

Mr. Crump died Feb. 8, 2008, at the age of 83.

He was born on July 2, 1924, in Opportunity.

He lived in Sequim for 14 years and was active with the Rotary Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

He instructed aerobatics at Port Townsend and flew actively from Sequim Airfield.

He was in charge of the Irrigation Festival for two years.

A war veteran and lifetime aviator, he was a cousin of James Buell Felts, the aviator Felts Field was named for, and the younger brother of James Buell Crump, formerly of Spokane.

Bonnie Garay

A memorial service for Sequim resident Bonnie Garay will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. The Rev. Scott Koenigsaecker will preside. An open house follows the service.

Mrs. Garay died Feb. 10, 2008, at the age of 60 of cancer.

Michael Vaughn Farren

At his request, no service is planned for Sequim resident Michael Vaughn Farren, who died Feb. 4, 2008, at the age of 71.

He was born April 16, 1936, in Oakland, Calif., to Raymond Joseph and Mable Jeannette Gustafson Johnson Farren.

He married Judy Ellen Adams on Feb. 11, 1971, in Berkeley, Calif.

Mr. Farren worked in industrial refrigeration in the Bay Area and school building maintenance in Grass Valley, Calif. He worked in hospital building maintenance in Coquille, Ore., and retired to Sequim in 2000.

He enjoyed sailing, fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Farren of Sequim; son and daughter-in-law Rodger and Cindy Farren of Crescent City, Calif.; daughters and son-in-law Julie and Roland Block and Heather Farren, all of Grass Valley, Calif.; cousin George Farren and his wife Pat of Sequim; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Donald H. Dahl

No public service is planned for Sequim resident Donald H. Dahl, who died Jan. 24, 2008, at the age of 79.

He was born Aug. 15, 1928, in Lidgerwood, N. D., to Henry A. and Adda Parizek.

He married Joan Ostrand on Sept. 22, 1956, in Chicago, Ill.

He served in the Army as a topographic surveyor from 1951-53.

Mr. Dahl was an engineering geologist who traveled to Iran, Pakistan and Honduras. He also worked in Chicago, Ill., and California.

In addition to his wife, Joan Dahl, he is survived by a sister in Seattle, three nephews in Snohomish, Denver and St. Louis Park, Minn.; and a niece in Seattle.

Richard E. Boyce

A service has been held for Port Angeles resident Richard E. Boyce, who died Jan. 31, 2008, at the age of 95.

He was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Elk River, Idaho, to Thomas M. and Evvy Armine Spencer Boyce.

He married Margaret Hobson on April 21, 1938, in Boise, Idaho. She preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2004.

Mr. Boyce served in the United States Navy during World War II. He also served for many years in the Naval Reserve.

He was an electrical engineer and following his military service he owned and operated an electrical transformer company in Spokane.

Following his retirement in the mid-1970s, he moved to

Sequim. He moved to Port Angeles in 2004.

He was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sequim where he greatly enjoyed singing in the choir and as a soloist. He also enjoyed playing the organ at Park View Villa, science, problem solving and listening to music.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Thomas R. Boyce, M.D. and his wife Terrill of Lake Forest Park; John M. and Marie Dominique Boyce of Middletown, Conn.; daughter and son-in-law M. Jane and Gary F. Melendy of Port Angeles; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters and one grandson.

Ralph Horner

Port Angeles resident Ralph Horner died Feb. 10, 2008, at the age of 52.

He was born Dec. 21, 1955, in Tacoma, to Gerald P. and Eileen R. Rezner Horner.

Wanda R. Black

A memorial celebration of life will be held at a later date for Sequim resident Wanda R. Black, who died Jan. 19, 2008, at the age of 92 of pneumonia/heart failure.

She was born Oct. 26, 1915, in Corona, Calif., to Thomas Nichelson and Daisy Forest Chism Ridgway.

She graduated from Huntington Park High School in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1934. She attended cosmetology courses after high school.

She married Robert Black on Sept. 24, 1942, in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2007.

The couple lived in Los Angeles until his retirement. They moved to Gardiner in 1976 and to Sequim in 2003.

Mrs. Black was primarily a homemaker and mother. Earlier, she worked as a bookkeeper for several companies, including Sears. Before she retired, she worked for Litton Industries.

She was a wonderful seamstress who enjoyed sewing wedding dresses and tuxedos as well as doing her own upholstery work. She also enjoyed making decorative cakes for every holiday or special occasion. She was well known at the Garden Club for her decorative cakes, which she was asked to bring to each meeting to be raffled off.

She had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed her life and doting on her family.

She enjoyed going out to lunch with her husband every day. They were inseparable.

She is survived by her son Robert Thomas Black of Cody, Wyo. and daughter Nancy Lee Bain of Sequim.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, who died as an infant, and sisters Christine, Lenora, Frances and Audrey.

Harry Ray Charles

A service has been held for Port Angeles resident Harry Ray Charles, who died Feb. 3, 2008, at the age of 74 following surgery.

He was born May 17, 1933, in Port Angeles (Pysht) to Peter Robert and Lena Quedessa Charles.

He worked as a janitor and enjoyed working with others on the job.

He enjoyed drumming, playing guitar, planting sunflowers, drawing, artwork, visiting friends and family at the tribal center and dancing.

He was a member of Assembly of God Church — Lower Elwha.

He is survived by his brother George Reginold Charles and sisters Violet Melba Fernandes; Glory “Gloria” Evelyn Rapoza; and Dolores Ann Langland.

William Linton Jr.

No service was reported for Sequim resident William Linton Jr., who died Feb. 9, 2008, at the age of 90.

He was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Newark, Ohio, to William and Etta M. Pine Linton Sr.

He married June Platts.
