Marla Mae Rychlik
A celebration of life has been held for Port Angeles resident Marla Mae Rychlik, who died July 7, 2008, at the age of 71 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
She was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Port Angeles to Earl and Vivian Peters Vanausdle.
She married Louie Rychlik on Sept. 11, 1972, in Port Angeles.
Mrs. Rychlik was a homemaker and business manager for Louie’s Well Drilling, the family business. She enjoyed bingo, flowers, her garden and her grandchildren. She was affiliated with the Boys & Girls Club in Sequim.
She is survived by her husband, Louie Rychlik, daughter Debbie Hutton, sisters Nadine Waugaman and Patsy Anderson, all of Port Angeles; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Danielle “Boo Boo” Rychlik on Feb. 3, 2007.

Walt Cooper
No service has been reported for Sequim resident Walt Cooper, who died July 4, 2008, at the age of 71.
He was born Feb. 19, 1937, in Ukiah, Calif., to Tiny and Goldie Tuggle Cooper.
He married his wife, Deloris, on Sept. 1, 1979, in Reno, Nev.
Mr. Cooper was a logger and gravel truck driver. He was a former resident of Goldendale.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris Cooper of Sequim; son and daughter-in-law Allen and Darlene Cooper of Loveland, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Tim Roemer of Redwood Valley, Calif.; stepson Carles Vickery and stepdaughter and stepson-in-law Nora and Brad Wynhoff, all of White Salmon; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arnold Gustaf Friberg
No service has been reported for Sequim resident Arnold Gustaf Friberg, who died July 5, 2008, at the age of 97.
He was born March 6, 1911, in Chicago, Ill., to Helmuth and Alma Friberg.
He married Eleanore Lizette Webber on June 8, 1940, in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 1991. He married Mary Daly in Seattle in 1996. She preceded him in death in 2001.
Mr. Friberg was drafted into the United States Navy at the age of 33 in 1943 and served until 1945. He was a petty officer second class and served as a radar technician, dodged kamikaze fighters in the South Pacific and Philippines.
He attended Northwestern University and Illinois Institute of Technology.
He was a senior electrical engineer for Western Electric for 29 years in Chicago, Ill., and Boulder, Colo.
He moved to Sequim and retired in 1973. Mr. Friberg loved to walk, hike and snowshoe and was an avid camper and outdoorsman. He also appreciated music and was a pianist.
He was a past president of Klahhane Club and a member of Port Angeles Camera Club and Dungeness Community Club.
Gale Wayne Maulin
A service has been held for Port Angeles resident Gale Wayne Maulin, who died July 7, 2008, at the age of 67 of cancer.
He was born Sept. 24, 1940, in Plad, Mo., to James and Inez Lorene Medley Maulin.
After graduating from high school in 1960, he went to work for Daishowa Mill.
He married Alene Kuchan in Port Angeles in 1960. They divorced in 1981.
One of the first Washington State Lotto winners, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching sports, game shows and news. He was a member of Pulp and Paper Makers Union and an active member of AA.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Terri Maulin of Poulsbo, daughter and son-in-law Jolene and Kory Hitt of Port Angeles, mother Inez Lorene Maulin, sister and brother-in-law Judy and Del Mathis of Sequim,; two grandchildren, and many uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his son Dennis Maulin, father James Maulin and sister Shirley Edwards.

Clarice Davis
No service was reported for Sequim resident Clarice Davis, who died June 30, 2008, at the age of 87 from complications of diabetes.
She was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Salina, Kan.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; sons Larry of St. Cloud, Minn., Thom and Rick of Seattle; and one granddaughter.

Mabel Blincoe
No service has been reported for former Sequim resident Mabel Blincoe, who died July 9, 2008, at the age of 99.
She was born Jan. 21, 1909, in Sequim to Frank and Mary Heiserman.
She spent most of her younger years living on the family home territory of Palo Alto, in the foothills above Sequim, where her grandfather, William H. Schmith, homesteaded.
She finished her school years in Sequim and at the time of her death, was recorded as the oldest living alumni of Sequim schools.
She married George Blincoe on July 2, 1927. He preceded her in death in 1995, when they were living in Marysville.
In 1998, Mrs. Blincoe moved to Lake Stevens where her daughter Joan and son-in-law Neil Hordyk live.
She loved her family, the outdoors, gardening, crocheting and her cat, Riley.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Roberta Winter of Marysville and Joan and Neil Hordyk of Lake Stevens; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ronald Scott Campbell
A memorial service for Sequim resident Ronald Scott Campbell will be held Aug. 2 at Green Peter Lake, Ore. Mr. Campbell died June 27, 2008, at the age of 55 of congestive heart failure.
He was born March 30, 1953, in San Jose, Calif., to Ralph Scott and Gladys Montgomery Everitt Campbell.
He married Susan Dianne Boyle on July 30, 1970, in Reno, Nev. They divorced in May 1982. He married Jerri Diane Russeff on Dec. 26, 1983, in Arlington.
Mr. Campbell grew up in Santa Cruz County, Calif., and completed welding trade school in 1978 in San Jose, Calif. He moved to Washington in 1978, working in shipyards there and in Alaska. He moved to Oregon in 1984, where he worked as a plant manager and was a factory manager onboard a fish trawler in Alaska. He moved his family to Sequim in 1991 while he still was working in Alaska. He raised many types of farm animals, starting in his youth. It was unusual for him to not have some kind of animal.
In addition his wife, Jerri, he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Glade and Michelle Campbell of Albany, Ore; Scott and Allison Campbell of Los Gatos, Calif.; Josh Campbell and Joe Campbell, both of Sequim; mother Gladys Campbell of Los Gatos, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law Bart and Judy Campbell of Bend, Ore.; sister G’Ann Gridley of Los Gatos, Calif., and seven grandchildren.

Eunice A. Cook
No service has been reported for Sequim resident Eunice A. Cook, who died July 10, 2008, at the age of 93.
She was born Feb. 12, 1915, in Stockville, Neb., to William C. and Wilmina Hester Richey Sheets.
She is survived by her sons Weldon “Okie” Sheldon of Sequim and Leslie Sheldon of Layton, Utah; daughter Betty DiGrandi of Sequim; and brother William Sheets of Diamond Point.

Robert Pierce ‘Mac’ McDonald
A celebration of life will be held at a later date for Port Angeles resident Robert Pierce “Mac” McDonald, who died July 10, 2008, at the age of 79.
He was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Sequim to Larry Patrick and Isabelle Jane Pierce McDonald.
He married Nancy Lannon on June 20, 1959, in Bainbridge, Md.
He retired from the United States Navy and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Peninsula College. He worked as a criminal investigator for the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and part time for U.S. Customs, all while living in Port Angeles.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, weekly poker games and morning coffee at The Landing restaurant.
Mr. McDonald was a member of Elks and Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ann McDonald of Port Angeles; daughters and sons-in-law Katie and Scott Cannon of Marysville and Kelly and Dirk Gouge of Port Angeles; brother Larry McDonald of Bremerton; sisters and brothers-in-law Patricia and John Mahoney and Colleen and Dave Butler, all of Port Angeles; and four grandchildren.

Bernice ‘Boots’ Hope Davis Cochran
No service has been reported for Sequim resident Bernice “Boots” Hope Davis Cochran, who died June 26, 2008, at the age of 84.
She was born Sept. 25, 1923, outside of Charleston, W. Va., to John Wesley and Sarah Barker Davis. The last surviving of 12 children, nine of whom survived infancy, she was a hard worker from her earliest years. She left high school prior to graduation to begin her lifelong career as a waitress.
She married James Albert Cochran in 1948. He preceded her in death in 1990.
The Cochrans had three children, James Albert Cochran II, Carleen Bernice Cochran (Debby) and Sharon Kay Cochran Jensen (William).
Divorced in the early 1960s, Mrs. Cochran raised her three children by herself, at times working two and a half shifts waiting tables and tending bar to make ends meet.
In addition to her children, she is survived by her sister-in-law Beulah Davis, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and relatives in West Virginia and elsewhere.
