Ellen McCloud
A memorial service for Port Angeles resident Ellen McCloud will be held at 1 p.m. April 9 at Drennan Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles. Pastor Jon Fodge will preside.
Mrs. McCloud died April 5, 2008, at the age of 94.
She was born July 23, 1913, in Bendina, Kan., to Earl and Mary McLaughlin Randale.
She married William Cullum in 1941 in Seattle. He preceded her in death in April 1976.
A Port Angeles resident for seven years, she was a loving housewife and mother.
She is survived by her son Roy Owens of Seattle; daughter and son-in-law Jean and Arch Hoagland of Green Valley; sister Naomi Hurd of West Seattle; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers-in-law.

Frederick Winston Treat
A memorial service for Sequim resident Frederick Winston Treat will be held on May 2 at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. Mr. Treat died March 28, 2008, at the age of 87.
He was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Los Angeles, Calif., and grew up in Southern California. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He attended Texas A&M and MIT and became a licensed land surveyor, retiring in 1976 after 32 years with Los Angeles County Flood Control.
He loved music and the arts. He played the organ and sang in church and community choirs for more than 70 years, including the Sequim Community Church choir for almost 30 years.
During his 32 years of retirement, he enjoyed oil painting, travel, walking and puttering in his woodshop where he made many fine pieces of furniture. He was a lifelong learner and an avid reader of a wide variety of subjects, remaining active and independent to the end.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Muriel Middleton Treat; son and daughter-in-law Rich and Diane Treat of Colorado; daughter Sharon Means; brother and sister-in-law James and Jane; sisters June Newton and Arlene Jungkeit, all of Oregon; and sister-in-law Joyce Wood of California; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by brothers William and Richard and sister Dawn.

Paul George Sterling
At his request, there will be no service for Sequim resident Paul George Sterling, who died March 31, 2008, at the age of 84 of congestive heart failure.
He was born Oct. 16, 1923, in Los Angeles, Calif.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943-1946 and earned a business degree from Woodbury College in Los Angeles in 1948. He married Lois Walz in 1951 in Inglewood, Calif. She preceded him in death in 2006.
Mr. Sterling developed apartment complexes in the Los Angeles, Inglewood and Gardena areas of California.
The Sterlings moved to Sequim in 1993 and he started Outdoor Accents, building and selling cupolas and weather vanes.
He was a member of American Legion Post 62 and Sequim Elks Lodge.
He is survived by children Karen and Frank Clatanoff of Sequim; Douglas and Christie Walz of Cypress, Calif.; Milo Walz of Torrance, Calif.; Gregory and Karen Sterling of Moreno Valley, Calif.; and Patricia and Ernie Cochran of Fountain Valley, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The Neptune Society was in charge of arrangements.
Albert Junior Brown
A private memorial service for Sequim resident Albert Junior Brown will be held at a later date. Mr. Brown died March 30, 2008, at the age of 74.
He was born March 13, 1934, in Sacramento, Calif., to Albert Albias and Tot B. Clarida Brown.
He graduated from Englewood High School in Englewood, Colo., in 1952. He served in the United States Army from 1954-57 and earned an Associate of Arts degree in 1975 from American River College in Los Rios, Calif. He worked as a firefighter at McClellan Air Force Base in California for 22 years and as a travel agent in Oregon for about 12 years.
He was a member of Natoma Lodge 64 of Free and Accepted Masons in Folsom, Calif.
He is survived by special friend JoAnn Rosenberg; cousins and a multitude of friends.

John C. McIlwaine
A memorial service and celebration of life for Sequim resident John C. McIlwaine will be held at a later date. Mr. McIlwaine died March 30, 2008, at the age of 84 from Parkinson’s disease.
He was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Bronx, N.Y., to Frank A. and Freida Must McIlwaine. A marriage to Margaret McIlwaine of New York ended in divorce.
He lived in the Pacific Northwest since 1961 and married Patricia A. Eaton on Aug. 28, 1977, in Reno, Nev.
He was a career naval officer and he worked in real estate investments.
Mr. McIlwaine enjoyed travel, boating, stained glass and reading.
He was a member of the Sequim Elks Lodge, a life member of the Military Officers Association of America, the Association of Naval Aviation Inc. and the USS Wright Association.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Sequim; sons Jon McIlwaine of Conifer, Colo., Richard McIlwaine of Aspen, Colo., and Gregory Leiser.
He was preceded in death by sister Ardy Richardson.

Geraldine Agnes Huffman
A service has been held for Sequim resident Geraldine Agnes Huffman, who died March 31, 2008, at the age of 77 of a stroke. Nieces Lori Warren and Janice Lund presided.
She was born July 22, 1930, in Seattle to Richmond Oscar and Della Savin Powell. After graduating from Highline High School in Burien, she became a farmer and homemaker. She married Neal Scott Huffman on July 29, 1948, in South Seattle.
Mrs. Huffman enjoyed crabbing, fishing, farming, mushrooming and following the Seattle Mariners. She also was a 4-H leader.
She is survived by her husband, Neal Huffman of Sequim; sons and daughters-in-law David Huffman of Australia and Phil and Diane Huffman of Sequim; daughters and son-in-law Patti Roberts of Oregon and Lynette and Doug Johnson of Seattle; sister-in-law Vivian Helsell; and five grandchildren.

Gertrude E. Yale
A service has been held for Port Angeles resident Gertrude E. Yale, who died April 1, 2008, at the age of 83.
She was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Modesto, Calif., to Salvadore and Mary Ellen Smith Girdano. She attended San Jose High School in San Jose, Calif.
She married James H. Yale in 1943 in Santa Cruz, Calif. He preceded her in death in August 1992. She worked as a quality assurance technician for IBM.
She is survived by her son Steven Yale of Port Angeles; brother Ralph Girdano of Colfax, Calif.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Dr. Eric C. Schreiber
A private family gathering will be held at a later date for Sequim resident Dr. Eric C. Schreiber, who died April 2, 2008, at the age of 86.
He was born Aug. 16, 1921, in Obertshausen, Germany, to Nikolaus Josef and Anna Hofmann Schreiber.
He married Erica C. Smolar on Sept. 8, 1974, in Red Hook, N.Y.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, from May 5, 1943-Oct. 25, 1945, as a staff sergeant, radio repairman and mechanic.
He was stationed in Italy, France and North Africa.
Dr. Schreiber was a doctor of pharmacology and a researcher in pharmaceutical drugs. He also was a professor of pharmacology at the University of Tennessee Medical School.
He loved painting in oils, sailing, woodworking and model building.
He is survived by his wife, Erica C. Schreiber of Sequim; sons and daughters-in-law Robert W. Schreiber and Pat Valdata of Elkton, Md., and Eric C. Schreiber Jr. and Barbara Ciletti of Longmont, Colo.; stepdaughter Sharon C. Scairpon of Port Angeles; and stepson and daughter-in-law Rik J. Scairpon and Tamara Peck of Sequim.
