Janet S. Hendrickson

A memorial service for Sequim resident Janet S. Hendrickson will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Sequim Bible Church, 847 N. Sequim Ave.

Mrs. Hendrickson died Nov. 13, 2008, at the age of 69. She was born April 18, 1939, in Tacoma, to Gardi and Doris Walker.

She married Donald Hendrickson on Feb. 23, 1958, in Port Angeles. Mrs. Hendrickson was a homemaker whose primary focus was her husband. She worked in various retail jobs, including medical receptionist and cashier. She was involved extensively in her children’s activities, including Cub Scouts, Bluebirds and Camp Fire. She loved all types of crafts, including crocheting and sewing, and collecting and trying new recipes on friends and family. Cooking was one of her favorite hobbies.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Hendrickson; son and daughter-in-law David and Anita Hendrickson; daughters and sons-in-law Vickie and Dana Rekow and Julie and Abraham Correa; and two grandchildren.

Bonita Cooper

A memorial Mass for Port Angeles resident Bonita Cooper will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Nov. 26 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 11th and Oak streets, Port Angeles. The Rev. Thomas Nathe is the officiant. A reception follows at noon at 723 S. Alder St., Port Angeles.

Mrs. Cooper died Nov. 4, 2008, at the age of 99.

She was born Dec. 4, 1908, in Montesano to Lawrence Matthew and Eliza Emily Watkins Rice. She graduated from Montesano High School and studied at Ellensburg Normal School.

She married G. Raymond Cooper on Jan. 24, 1929. He preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 1975. Together they built Cooper’s Ranch on the Calawah River. They moved to Forks in 1955 and retired to Brinnon in 1968.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Central Washington University and attended the University of Washington, Western Washington University and Seattle University. Mrs. Cooper was a pioneer teacher at Queets and Clearwater schools and later taught for 28 years in Forks.

She moved to Port Angeles in 1994 to be near her daughter Bonita Ulin.

She loved teaching and children, tutoring until she was 90. She enjoyed remaining active within her church, the osprey and hummingbirds, and the sounds of waves and laughter.

She was a member of Queen of Angeles Catholic Church, Washington Education Association and Washington Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Bonita Ray and Bud Ulin of Port Angeles; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ralph L. Bowie

At his request, no service is planned for Sequim resident Ralph L. Bowie, who died Nov. 6, 2008, at the age of 72 of a heart attack.

He was born April 6, 1936, in Glencoe, Ky., to George and Bess Brown Bowie.

He married Diane Marie Hecks on Feb. 3, 1959, in Tacoma.

He served in the military from 1957-1959 and retired from United Airlines while living in Federal Way, before moving to the peninsula in 1994. He was a Southern Baptist and enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Bowie of Sequim; son Gary Bowie of Sequim; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Jacqueline "Jacki" Bowie.

Clarence E. Hotz

A service has been held for Port Angeles resident Clarence E. Hotz, who died Nov. 7, 2008, at the age of 92.

He was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Vanguard, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Walter and Genevieve Gostischef.

He married Florence Leona Ingalls on Oct. 11, 1938, in St. Boswells, Saskatchewan. She preceded him in death on April 26, 2005.

Mr. Hotz worked as a fireman for Canadian Pacific Railroad while living in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He also worked for Tube Art Display in Seattle; Mobile Cleaning Systems in La Habra, Calif.; and founded and was the owner/manufacturer of Bargain Warehouse in Port Angeles.

He enjoyed the study of Christian eschatology, gardening, building and carpentry. He was a member of Home Bible Fellowship group in Port Angeles.

He is survived by his sons Dennis Hotz and Calvin Hotz, both of Poulsbo; daughters Dolores Baehm of Boise, Idaho, and Carol Martinez of Port Angeles; brother Keith Hotz of San Francisco, Calif.; sisters Evelyn Dennis of Minot, N.D. and Pearl Becker of Kindersley, Saskatchewan; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son Ronald Hotz; brothers Howard Hotz, Murl Hotz, Vernon Hotz, Arthur Hotz and Don Hotz; and sisters Hazel Hotz and Marion Morden.

Alice Jane Taylor

Sequim resident Alice Jane Taylor died Oct. 21, 2008, at the age of 86. Burial was at Tahoma National Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Joplin, Mo., to Roy Albert and Myrtle Melissa Jones Farnham.

She married Ray C. Taylor on Jan. 23, 1940. He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 2007. A military wife, she lived in Texas, California, Puerto Rico, England and Germany. Her husband was commander of Nike Missile Battery on Bainbridge Island, where they retired. Mrs. Taylor was active as a Girl Scout leader. She taught Sunday school and was active in her church choir. At the age of 59, she began organ lessons and became an accomplished organist.

She is survived by her son Michael Taylor of Dallas, Texas; daughter Janice Ramey of Sequim; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Edmund ‘Speedy’ Freehill

Port Angeles resident Edmund "Speedy" Freehill, 81, died Nov. 15, 2008.

He was born Sept. 22, 1927, in Fairbury, Ill., to Cletus and Margaret Snyder Freehill.

A service will be held at a later date in Illinois.

Ralph ‘Lyle’ Fuller

Ralph "Lyle" Fuller, of Port Town-send, died Nov. 10, 2008 at age 81 in Sequim. He was born June 1, 1927, in Timmer, N.D., to Walter Newton Fuller and Agnes Rachel Nesmith. He served in the United States Air Force from Jan. 9, 1946 to July 4, 1947. He was married to Margaret Ann Wagner who died Jan. 1, 2006.

A service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, at Kosec Funeral Home, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend. A reception follows at 2 p.m. at Hiway 20 Road House.
