On Feb. 5, the Olympic Medical Center Foundation presented a check for $150,000 to the board of commissioners of the Olympic Medical Center. The funds will be used to support the Olympic Medical Cancer Center in Sequim.

A third of the gift will go to the cancer center’s new integrative medicine program, which emphasizes evidence-based therapies complementary to conventional medicine. Those might include nutritional therapies, botanical medicine, mind-body medicine, manual medicine and spirituality in health and illness.

The other $100,000 will be utilized for other cancer center improvements, including $50,000 that will be spent on improvements to the infusion bays at the cancer center.

The infusion bay improvements were donated by Sequim resident Larry St. Peter in memory of his wife, Gail.

St. Peter also is donating several paintings — all the work of his wife — to the cancer center.

OMC Foundation Executive Director Bruce Skinner said, “Gail passed away on June 18 of last year, but not before creating many of the incredible pieces of art that patients and their families will be able to view and enjoy.”

In their notice, foundation officials said they also have raised and set aside another $100,000, with $59,305 also earmarked for the integrative medicine program.
