Oncologist to speak about treating cancer

Medical oncologist Dr. Thomas Kummet will present a free WOW! Working on Wellness Forum entitled “Cancer: Current Therapies & Treatment” at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., in Sequim.

Kummet wants to share some understanding of the changes in cancer treatment over the past  five years or so, emphasizing the therapies that are showing up on commercials. Kummet graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1978 with an MD and MPH degrees. He completed his training in cancer treatment at the University of Arizona in 1983. His 35-year career in cancer care will end in August, after spending the past 10 years of his practice here on the Olympic Peninsula.

WOW! Working on Wellness is a health education program of Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic—Sequim’s free clinic. The clinic provides basic urgent care and chronic health care services to uninsured community members. Its work is supported by more than 70 volunteers, including physicians, other professional health care providers and laypersons, as well as private and public donations from the Sequim community and beyond.

The Basic Urgent Care Clinic is open to patients on at 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. Individuals interested in supporting the clinic may call 582-0218.
