A Port Angeles man was apprehended while two suspected accomplices fled the scene of what Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is calling an attempted burglary in Sequim in the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 6.
Richard Welches, 22, of Port Angeles, was charged with second degree criminal trespass, third degree theft and possession of a controlled substance after deputies found him with drug paraphernalia and other items near a residence in the 300 block of Cameron Acres Road.
According to the sheriff’s office, a homeowner near the 100 block of Cameron Acres Road was awakened to a noise and called law enforcement officials after seeing movement outside his home.
Deputy Don Kitchen soon found Welches in nearby bushes, according to the sheriff’s office; Welches was taken into custody without incident. Welches was found to have heroin secreted on his person during the Clallam County Jail intake process.
A second resident in the 400 block of Cameron Acres Road called and reported a prowler at that residence that had occurred earlier and the description matched that of Welches, sheriff’s officials said.
A subsequent search of the area for two other suspects was unsuccessful.
Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 417-2262.
