The public is invited to attend an open house to learn more about the development of a Pollution Identification & Correction Plan for the Sequim-Dungeness Clean Water District, sponsored by the Clallam Conservation District.
The open house will be from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Sequim Library meeting room, 630 N. Sequim Ave. The goal of the PIC plan is to better coordinate water quality monitoring and clean-up efforts among area agencies and organizations. The PIC plan will include a water quality monitoring plan to identify specific problems caused by non-point source pollution; identify specific measures to correct them; coordinate outreach and education efforts; clearly define when and how enforcement action should be taken; and include a plan for stable funding. The PIC plan will closely model existing PIC plans that have been developed and successfully implemented by several Puget Sound counties.
The Clallam Conservation District, in collaboration with Clallam County Health and Human Services Environmental Health Section, is coordinating the development of the PIC plan. The Clean Water Workgroup, a subcommittee of the Dungeness River Management Team, will serve as the PIC Planning Task Force and will be responsible for developing the plan over the next year.
The Task Force will continually seek public input while developing the plan. Local staff from several of the Task Force agencies will be available to answer questions and share materials specific to the development of the PIC during the open house.
