Olympic National Park sources

Olympic National Park’s Pyramid Peak Trail is closed to public use effective immediately due to unsafe conditions and will remain closed until repairs are completed this fall.

The trail crosses a number of steep slopes, including an area prone to frequent slide activity. The active slide area has created a hazardous situation and led to the closure.

The park’s trail crew will work with members of the Washington Trails Association this September to re-route the trail around the active slide area this September.

The trail will be closed through completion of the re-route, projected for later this fall.

The new route will cross the slide area at a lower elevation, with the goal of providing safer and more sustainable travel.

The Pyramid Peak Trail is 3.5 miles long and rises about 2,500 feet from the trailhead on Camp David Junior Road to the summit of Pyramid Peak.
