Sequim Gazette staff
After nearly a decade working at Sequim’s hometown weekly newspaper, Steve Perry is moving on — but just a few miles west.
Following Sound Publishing’s purchase of both Sequim Gazette and Peninsula Daily News papers, Perry is moving within the company to be come the PDN’s advertising director today,
Dec. 7.
“I’m excited to take on a new opportunity, a bigger challenge,” Perry said. “With 17 years working for dailies, (the shift) is not completely foreign to me.”
Perry started in newspapers in 1981 working for the Skagit Valley Herald and Anacortes American in Mount Vernon. During his seven years there, he served a number of positions including sales executive, major accounts manager and classified manager. He then worked for The Kitsap Sun in Bremerton for 12 years, serving in a number of positions from sales executive to major accounts manager and, finally, retail sales manager. Following that, he worked as advertising director for the Peninsula Gateway in Gig Harbor.
In 2002, he took the position of advertising director and general manager for Olympic View Publishing, parent company of the Sequim Gazette, Forks Forum and Homes/Land Real Estate magazines until OVP’s sale in early November.
Perry said he will miss the collegial atmosphere at the Gazette.
“We created a real family unity (here),” he said. “It’s been a tremendous experience working with such a dedicated team.”
Sue Ellen Riesau, publisher of the Sequim Gazette, Forks Forum and Homes/Land Real Estate magazines, takes over responsibilities of advertising director this week.
Perry and his wife, Karen, have been married for 27 years. They have three sons: Daniel, Matthew and Justin.
