Superior Court

Bryan K. Barker – Barker, 29, of Bremerton, had an April 5 trial date set at a Jan. 15 arraignment. He faces one count of second-degree assault-strangulation/domestic violence. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 5. According to court records, Barker allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Jan. 3 in a Sequim motel room.

Christopher Ray Ahlstedt – Ahlstedt, 48, of Port Angeles, had a March 1 trial date set on one count each of first-degree possession of stolen property and second-degree trafficking in stolen property. According to court records, Ahlstedt allegedly stole construction tools and a trailer worth an estimated $20,000 from a Sequim construction site Nov. 15. Then Ahlstedt allegedly painted the trailer a different color and removed the license plate and resold the tools for $1,000.

Ahlstedt also faces one count each of custodial assault (adult corrections institution or local detention facility) and second-degree malicious mischief (substantial risk of interruption or impairment of service). According to court records, Ahlstedt allegedly destroyed a portable telephone on Dec. 23 that belonged to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and then assaulted a corrections officer who was searching his cell for the telephone.

Loretta Edberg – Edberg, 37, of Upland, Calif., accepted a prosecutor’s plea bargain at a Jan. 21 court hearing. She will plead guilty and be sentenced on March 18. Edberg was arrested May 1 in Montclair, Calif., on investigation of custodial interference. Christopher D. Hanning, 10, and Joshua N. Hanning, 13, were found with their mother in Montclair, Calif., and reunited with their father, Brian Hanning, on May 2.

Edberg’s accomplice Anthony Charles Buchanan was sentenced Nov. 24 on one count of first-degree custodial interference. He will serve 15 days in jail converted to 120 hours community service and pay $1,350 in fines and court costs plus restitution to be determined. He is prohibited from having contact with Brian Hanning or his two sons before Nov. 24, 2014. Three other counts were dismissed.

Lauryn L. Last – Last, 17, was released to her uncle and grandmother on Jan. 22 pending a Jan. 25 hearing to reset her trial date. Her conditions of release include staying with her relatives from 6 p.m.-6 a.m. except to attend self-help meetings. Last was charged as an adult Jan. 7, 2009, in Clallam County Superior Court with one count of first-degree murder or, in the alternative, second-degree murder.

According to court documents, Last allegedly drowned her newborn son and disposed of his body in a trash container on Dec. 31, 2008. Defense attorneys plan to argue Last didn’t know she was in labor and went into shock after giving birth.
