A 38-year-old Port Angeles male driver died and a 23-year-old male passenger in a truck was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center for treatment after the vehicle struck a tree near Woodcock Road on Sept. 7.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office has not yet released the name of the driver.
Speed and alcohol consumption appear to be contributing factors to the accident, according to sheriff’s department officials.
At 3:13 p.m. on Sunday, law enforcement officials received a report that a small pickup truck was driving erratically through a field near Fitzgerald Road toward Old Olympic Highway.
About three minutes later, officials received a report that a truck with the same description struck the side of a house on the 8000 block of Old Olympic Highway.
Two minutes after that, officials received a report that the truck struck a tree near the Woodcock Road/Kitchen-Dick Road intersection.
The license plate from the pickup matched the one reported from the Old Olympic Highway incident, officials said.
