In what may be one of the most convenient interviews in the Sequim Gazette, Sunshine Cafe, 145 W. Washington St., owners Allen and Dianne Drake took some time to answer Random Questions.
They host their 12th annual Free Harvest Dinner from noon-5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27. The turkey dinner serves as a benefit for Mary Beth Beuke for cancer treatment.
The Drakes have owned and operated Sunshine Cafe since 2001 and they request those who come for the dinner RSVP by calling 683-4282.
Question 7: What is your favorite color?
Dianne Drake: Purple because it’s my birthstone.
Allen: Blue because the sky is blue most of the time.
Question 22: What music are you listening to now?
Allen: Rock and roll. I listen to “The Q” out of Victoria or classic rock on satellite radio like Ozzy’s Boneyard.
Bonus Question: What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
Allen: Tom Petty at the Gorge or The Scorpions at the Rose Garden (in Portland, Ore.).
Dianne: Barenaked Ladies at the Gorge.
Question 29: Who is your favorite artist/writer or musician?
Allen: Eric Clapton. He’s been through a lot of bands and genres, found his way out of hell, lost his kid and still came back. He always pushed forward.
Question 30: What is the latest news story that stands out to you?
Allen and Dianne: Elise Beuke (Sequim High School senior) signing to row at the University of Washington. She worked here in the summer when she’s not rowing.
Question 10: What’s one thing people might not know about you?
Allen: I like to cook when I’m in it (cooking at the cafe) but I don’t like to cook at home all the time. I like cooking creatively but we want other people to cook for us.
Question 38: If you could thank one person, who would it be and why?
Dianne: My mom.
Allen: I’d thank God because I was like Clapton going on the wrong road. I got hooked up with a Mormon high priest and he helped me, and I’m not Mormon, but have had a lot of blessings in my life since that time.
