Carol Swarbrick Dries and the writers and readers from Readers Theatre Plus will perform three plays in May to benefit the Sequim Education Foundation, dedicated to inspiring Sequim public school students to achieve excellence in life.

The foundation awards scholarships to graduating seniors and grants to students with needs, gives grants to teachers for special classroom projects, and awards scholarships to undergraduates who win the annual Student Film Festival and Engineering Challenge.

At Old Schoolhouse

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, May 14-15, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at The Old Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, Sequim.

Performances in Port Angeles at The Port Angeles

Community Playhouse, Liberty and Lauridsen streets, are at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, May 21-22, and Sunday, May 23. There will be matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday..

Tickets may be purchased in advance at Pacific Mist Books, 121 W. Washington St., Sequim, and Odyssey Bookstore, 114 W. Front St., Port Angeles. Advance tickets cost $10; at the door, $12.

The three plays are:

_ “Still Above Ground,” by William Chisham of

Sequim. “Talking, knitting and ‘Lawrence Welk’ after dinner ….” This is the story of a long-married couple at home in the evening, with a very surprising ending. Mary Griffith is the reader.

_ “Short-Stuff, Mr. Luck … and The Story” by Paul Martin of Port Angeles. It’s a grandfather and his inquisitive 9-year-old granddaughter who share an amusing storytelling session. Gabrielle Halady, Paul Martin and Ray Hansen read.

_ “At Home in Grouse Lake,” by Sandy Frykholm and Win Perman of Sequim. “Max Hubbard leads the Civil Defense effort as the Cold War rages in 1956 Alaska.

His wife’s sister Lillia isn’t at war with anyone – except Max. Stuck in the same tiny town in rural Alaska, can these two ever get along?”

This story is read by Valerie Lape, Jim Dries, Vern Frykholm, Marilyn Carlson, Ric Munhall, Johnny Bell, Barbara Hughes, Cheryl Bell and Al Friess.
