Reading tutor trainings planned at Greywolf, Helen Haller Elementary Schools

Sequim School District staff say their volunteer reading tutor program plays an important and vital role in helping children become successful readers, as community volunteers bring rich and varied experiences as they work with the children.

Sequim School District staff say their volunteer reading tutor program plays an important and vital role in helping children become successful readers, as community volunteers bring rich and varied experiences as they work with the children.

Betsy Smith, teacher/reading specialist at Helen Haller Elementary School, hosts two training sessions — Part 1 on Sept. 20 and Part 2 on Sept. 27, both sessions from 3:15-4:15 p.m. — in the Helen Haller library, 350 W. A reading tutor training session also is scheduled for folks interested in becoming volunteer reading tutors at Greywolf Elementary School from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Sept. 28, in the library, 171 Carlsborg Road. Contact reading specialist teacher Krista Chatters at 582-3300 for more information.

Individuals interested in volunteering in Sequim Schools may fill out an online volunteer application for the 2016-2017 school year at https://sequimvolunteers.hrmplus.net/. The online application process requires an email address and provides step-by-step assistance. A current Washington driver’s license or state ID card is required in order to run a background check.
