Clallam Conservation District is taking registrations for its April Natural Landscaping course.
Through three evening classes and three Saturday field trips, course participants receive step-by-step instruction on how to analyze their properties and develop landscape designs suited to each site’s unique ecological conditions. Basic permaculture design principles are followed to achieve sustainable landscaping objectives of water conservation, wildlife habitat enhancement, stormwater management and low maintenance as well as aesthetics.
Evening classes are 6-8:30 p.m. on Mondays, April 11, 18 and 25, each at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road. Field trips are on Saturdays, April 16, 23 and 30.
To register, call the Clallam Conservation District at 775-3747 ext. 5 or send an e-mail to joe.holtrop@clallamcd.org.
The registration deadline is April 6. A $25 registration fee ($30 for couples) covers the cost of a binder of course materials, the WSU publication “Grow Your Own Native Landscape” and facilities rental.
Clallam Conservation District executive director Joe Holtrop is the course instructor. He has undergraduate and graduate degrees in landscape architecture and has been promoting and teaching sustainable landscaping since 1990.
