Egg hunt hatched
at First Teacher room
First Teacher classroom (Room 4W at Sequim Community School 220 W. Alder St.) hosts several activities for youths and parents throughout the school year, including an Easter egg hunt from 10-11:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, with a special appearance from the Easter bunny (Steve Rosales).
In April, activities include "Sensory Name Activity" on April 11; "Stranger Danger" with district resource officer Darrell Nelson on April 18; and on April 25, Kindermusic’s Grand Finale.

Other First Teacher
activities
First Teacher is home to Monday story time each month, featuring guest readers and free books for young ones and parents.
On March 24, the guest reader is Laura Dubois, mayor of Sequim. In April, guest readers include First Teacher secretary Colleen Robinson (April 7), developmental preschool secretary Barbara West (April 14), Travis Martin of Parenting Matters Foundation (April 21), and First Teacher mom Tessa Kirner (April 28).
In addition, First Teacher hosts the 0-2 group for parents of children under 2. The group meets in the First Teacher room every Wednesday at 10 a.m. Meetings include toys, activities, coffee and tea, organizers say, but is mostly a time to meet and share ideas about raising a baby. On March 19, Jen Jurgensen talks about "Baby Signs."
On Thursdays in March, First Teacher hosts a brain development class (March 20, 27) from 9-10:30 a.m. Presented by Catherine Bento-Foxlee,
Sequim School District preschool psychologist, the class includes child care and a light snack for both parents and children.

Anti-drug coalition
hosts town hall meeting
The PRoTECT Coalition hosts its second Town Hall meeting on underage drinking from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, March 24, at the Sequim High School Performing Arts Building auditorium, 533 N. Sequim Ave.
The PRoTECT Community Coalition is funded by a Drug Free Communities grant and is comprised of individuals, parents, students, youths, businesses, government agencies, law enforcement agencies, media, social service organizations, youth clubs, faith-based organizations, tribal agencies and service clubs working to end substance abuse in eastern Clallam County.

Building group
offers scholarships
North Peninsula Building Association is accepting applications for scholarships to graduating seniors who are pursuing a career in the building industry trades and furthering their education at a four-year college, junior college or technical institution. The NPBA also offers continuing education scholarships to those who have received a scholarship from the association in the past and are continuing their education in the building industry trades.
Grants are available to teachers who teach classes in the building trades.

Olympic College opens
business scholarship
The Helen Langer Smith and Dr. Meredith Smith Endowed Scholarship for Business provides financial assistance to undergraduate students in the University of Washington’s Michael G. Foster School of Business.
To be considered for the scholarship, students must be from Kitsap, Mason, Jefferson or Clallam counties, or from the Gig Harbor area. The selection of scholarship recipients is based on academic merit.
The application deadline is April 5.
